Editors’ Review

Download managers can make it much easier to grab and save video from the Internet. There’s a lot of them, both freeware and shareware; but then, there’s a lot of video clips to download, and not just from YouTube but hundreds of other sites. Nuclear Coffee’s VideoGet is shareware that’s designed to make downloading video files and clips as easy as possible. While it’s not much different from other tools of its type, it has enough options to satisfy a wide range of users. It’s free to try with a 20-download limit.

VideoGet’s setup wizard offered an unusual choice, at least in our experience: a check box to disable adult Web sites report. We had questions: is the “report” links or blocked sites? And what exactly is disabled? We left the box unchecked. After we allowed the program’s IE and Firefox plug-ins, Firefox restarted with a new toolbar showing we had “2 Love Messages.” Good thing we were using Chrome! We removed the toolbar from Firefox and closed it, but at least we had a clearer idea of what VideoGet is capable of. The program’s user interface bears many similarities to other video downloaders, but there’s only so many ways to change the layout and details without compromising functionality. We could toggle the Advanced Converting Options panel open and closed. The program’s general Options include languages, themes, YouTube HD, and another chance to disable adult Web site support.

VideoGet is easy to use: just copy a URL to the Clipboard and press the program’s Add button. The Add URL tool includes a drop-down list of hundreds of supported sites, many with racy names. Clicking the download button started things off, and we finished by playing our new video in our usual media player. The output selector offers many file types. The program has some useful features, like batch loading, and it converts videos to a lot of formats. Few of the many free alternatives offer its combination of features, which will appeal to a wide spectrum of tastes. We suggest you avoid the browser plug-ins and simply focus on VideoGet’s capabilities, which aren’t trial-limited.
